To use, the patient inserts the sealing nozzle of the device into one nostril and blows into the mouthpiece. He then manually activates the device by pressing the bottom of the bottle, releasing resistance to the exhaled breath and allowing the exhaled breath and drug particles to create a medication-carrying airflow into the nasal cavity.

Device users demonstrated a clear preference for OptiNose over traditional nasal sprays in clinical studies. Advantages include:

  • Intuitive and easy-to-use
  • More comfortable due to its fixed position during use
  • Airflow through the nose at actuation reduces the discomfort often experienced when the spray is released
  • Reduction in the aftertaste at the back of the throat
